Outside of classic guns like the SPAS-12, I really don’t know much about Franchi. They’re connected to Benelli, Beretta holdings, and they make shotguns, but other than that, I haven’t familiarized myself with their offerings. As I walked the floor on my final day of SHOT Show, a rifle caught my eye, and I stepped into the Franchi booth.
This attention getting rifle is the Franchi Momentum All-Terrain. The gun is a bolt action, 308 rifle sporting a polymer stock in Franchi’s Verdant cerekote pattern. It feeds from AICS pattern magazines, with a Magpul PMAG loaded in the display gun. However, a proprietary 8-round magazine ships with the gun. The stock features MLOK slots at 3/6/9 o’clock for accessories, a variety of QD sockets, along with adjustable length of pull and cheek combs.
A free floated, cold hammer forged barrel is topped off by 5/8×28 threads, with a muzzle brake coming standard from the factory. Integral iron sights can flip from low profile notch-and-post with three white dots, similar to a pistol, or AR style peep sights. A picatinny rail adorns the top of the receiver for use with optics.
The Momentum All-Terrain is also available in 223, with a 10-round capacity.
New for this year is the Utility Lite Elite variant of the Momentum. A Franchi representative tells me this is nicknamed “The Mule”. What sets this apart is its shorter barrel, coming in at 16.25-inches. Interestingly, Franchi specifically calls out a defensive role for this rifle, contrasting the ranch focus of it’s longer brother.
While I like how handy the Utility Lite Elite is, it feels slightly heavier despite its name. Likely a result of the smaller diameter bore in 223, compared to the 308 Momentum I handled. I would love to see the Verdant finish on this gun, as the shorter barrel paired with 308 would be a dream.
