Sentinel Concepts 100 Point Pistol Assessment | Skills and Drills

If you’ve spent any time in a Sentinel Concepts handgun course, you know that accuracy at distance is a major part of class. Speed is certainly a factor, but on demand accuracy is something that many shooters lack. Steve’s 100 Point Pistol Assessment looks to test that.

Setting Up The Sentinel Concepts 100 Point Pistol Assessment

This is an incredibly simple drill to shoot. You’ll need a B-8 bullseye, 10 rounds in your magazine, a timer, and your holster. There are no modifications to the drill for concealment or duty style holsters.

Put your target at 25 yards to begin. On the beep, draw and fire on the target, ensuring that you reholster between each round fired. Time does not stop when holstered, as the par time for this is 10 minutes. You read that right, 10 minutes. This long par time should help maximize accuracy, providing ample time to ensure you’re only taking good shots.

Scoring this Drill

Score it like you see it. Each round has a maximum value of 10 points, with points subtracted accordingly for rounds outside the 10 ring. Complete misses subtract 10 points. Line breaks count towards the higher point value. Any shots over the par time count as a miss.

A passing score is 90% or better.

Range Time with The Sentinel Concepts 100 Point Pistol Assessment

I shot this for the first time in Winter of 2021 during class with Sentinel Concepts. On my first attempt I walked away with an 88%, sending a few rounds into the 7 ring. I made another attempt in June, and only brought home an 85% after making a few poor trigger presses. In early August I ran through the assessment a few more times and finally brought home the bacon with a 90% even. There’s still work to do to make this repeatable, and to buy a little buffer from the bleeding edge of passing.

My most recent attempts at the Sentinel Concepts Pistol Assessment

Overall this is an extremely low cost drill, both in terms of effort and ammunition. We all need to improve our distance shooting, myself included. Let us know how you did on the Sentinel Concepts 100 Point Pistol Assessment! Don’t forget to give Steve some love by signing up for a class. Tell him Dan sent you!
