Arsenal AK20 | SHOT Show 2020

Arsenal AK20

The AK world received an injection of modernity during SHOT Show 2020 as Arsenal displayed the new AK20 at Range Day.

The Arsenal AK20 is their latest step in bringing AK rifles into the 21st century, offering both custom shop and standard configuration models. Shooters can choose from both pistol and rifle versions, with 8.5, 10.5, and 16 inch barrels. Each model features a three position adjustable gas system allowing for suppressed, standard, and single shot settings. All models are made with milled receivers, and have 24×1.5RH threaded barrels.

The AK20 is designed from the ground up with suppressor use in mind. To support this, Arsenal is in the process of manufacturing suppressors in-house. Additionally, the company is currently developing their own line of furniture that is due out by Q2 of this year.

Arsenal AK20 Rail System

One of the most interesting aspects of the AK20 is the gas block and rail system. Arsenal claims that the AK20 is completely free-floated, much like many modern service rifles. Custom shop rifles feature a two piece aluminum rail that mates to the gas block. The lower half is equipped with five sections of MLOK, with the top half sporting a picatinny rail for optics mounting. The Arsenal AK20 completely lacks integral iron sights, so users will need an optic or aftermarket BUIS. Standard production rifles will have a polymer lower handguard with a single MLOK section. The rail and gas system is not backwards compatible with other rifles, making it proprietary to the AK20 line.

Expect to see 5.45×39 and 5.56×45 variants by the end of this year. Custom shop AK20 models will be available through KVAR in April, with an MSRP of $1,999-2,650. Standard models will be available between Q3/4 of this year, with no MSRP available at this time.
